Meridian has been synonymous with the California lifestyle and great-tasting, award-winning wines. Known for its bright, colorful labels, Meridian embodies the unique point of view that is California. Located in Paso Robles, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, Meridian Vineyards was established in 1988.
The label was first created in 1984 by veteran winemaker Chuck Ortman, who spent the early part of his career as winemaker and consultant to several Napa and Sonoma wineries.
Although the first Meridian wines were made from Napa fruit, Ortman was always intrigued by the emerging growing regions of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, where vineyards in cool Region I and II climates were yielding Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of phenomenal quality.
In September 2006, Meridian relaunched its wines with a series of signature labels for the six varietals designed by noted artist Patrick McFarlin. The cool coastal-influenced climate of California’s Central Coast has yielded wines of phenomenal quality for Meridian, resulting in more than 200 gold medals since 1991, including numerous “Best Buy” awards from Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.
Today, Meridian is the leading winery in California’s Central Coast yielding exceptional varietals including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The winemaking philosophy at Meridian is to produce wines that express the unique character of the Central Coast’s multiple growing regions. Meridian uses grapes that are full of depth and intensity from the careful tending they receive in the vineyards. The wines are handcrafted using traditional winemaking and aging techniques and are then blended to ensure complexity and superb balance on the palate.
