Established in 1480 AD, Castello di Gabbiano is situated in the heart of the famed region of Chianti Classico. During the Middle Ages, the Castello and vineyards were said to be protected by the Golden Knight, Cavaliere d'Oro.

Born out of the legacy of Gabbiano, Cavaliere d'Oro is a bold collection of wines from across Italy - namely Tuscany, Veneto, Puglia and Sicily. At the heart of this collection sits the Gabbiano wines you know and love, complete with a fresh new look.

Our portfolio is crafted with passion and care by our Tuscan winemaker Federico Cerelli. In 2011 Chief Winemaker Federico Cerelli joined Cavaliere d'Oro (Castello di Gabbiano at the time) after 10 years of experience at prestigious Italian wineries in Tuscany and the Chianti Classico wine regions.

Federico brought his extensive knowledge, passion and a philosophy that combines respect for tradition with a belief that continuous research and innovation deliver optimum quality. The distinctive Golden Knight logo serves as a steadfast symbol of this quality, and acknowledgement of our rich heritage of over 500 years. With the Cavaliere d’Oro portfolio Federico has had the opportunity to harness his experience and expand beyond Chianti Classico into new and exciting regions of Italy including Puglia, Sicily and Veneto.
