Responsible Consumption of Alcohol

SUPPORTING RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION

Supporting responsible consumption

Millions of adults around the world enjoy drinking our wines. As the producer of some of the world’s most renowned wines, we recognise our role in championing the responsible consumption of alcohol to help foster safe, sociable, and connected communities.

For decades, we’ve played an industry-leading role through proactive initiatives prioritising transparency, consumer choice and wellbeing.

We believe responsible drinking is a cornerstone of the long-term sustainability for our business and the broader wine industry. We continuously engage with government, regulators and industry partners to improve our practices – from product labelling and consumer education, to no and low alcohol innovation.

Our approach to responsible drinking is built on leadership, innovation, and collaboration.

Our commitment

Our Responsible Consumption of Alcohol Policy outlines how we support informed choices and responsible drinking across all aspects of our business. It provides a clear, practical framework, guiding our standards of transparency, education and consumer choice.

The policy reflects that while wine continues to play a meaningful role in culture and community, it should be enjoyed responsibly. We place a strong emphasis on helping consumers understand the importance of responsible consumption by providing clear information on topics such as alcohol content and the risks of excessive drinking.

Our initiatives help people make informed decisions, while our partnerships with social aspect organisations build broader awareness and contribute to creating drive positive change.

Standard drink calculator

In Australia, a standard drink contains 10 grams of alcohol.

For wine, the size of a standard drink in millilitres varies depending on the percentage of alcohol by volume (ABV). The ABV ranges across different types of wine, but will always be listed on the bottle.

It's important to understand that when you are out at a venue, or pouring yourself a glass, an average sized pour of wine often equates to more than a standard drink.

As a guide, the average ABV for wine varieties is:

  • Sparkling wine: 11.5% - 13%

  • White wine: 11.5% - 14%

  • Red wine: 11.5% - 15.5%

It's important to check your local guidelines to understand how a standard drink is measured, depending on where you live.

To help with this, check out the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking’s (IARD) Guidelines: General Population table for further insight into the recommended alcohol consumption and measurement issued by all government bodies around the world.
